Wonderful Woman Wednesday Wisdom

Wednesday, February 24, 2021

We all have a predefined notion of ourselves; the way we see ourselves in every moment of our lives. How do we let these fragmented notions of ourselves define us? We can at times be somewhat insecure in not knowing who we really are. Do we see ourselves the way others in our lives see us?

Why not pick up one of those pieces right now? What are you seeing? What are you feeling? What is the label this piece you’re examining right now say about you?

Does it say something that makes you feel powerful, or does it make you feel weak? Does it make you feel guilt or does it make you feel remorse? How long have you let this fragment hold you right where it wants you – weighing you down, feeling less than you should about yourself, and unworthy of loving yourself? Have you used this as an excuse to limit yourself when you wanted to do less - or more importantly - needed to live up to someone else’s expectation or perception of who you are?

Each of these pieces is part of the whole of the story of who we are, and we all have used them at different times in our life not to honor and love who we know we are. Let’s imagine for a moment it’s a physical limitation. How have you let that impact your life? What has it helped you to avoid doing? What has it kept you from doing that you’d like to have done? How has it impacted the others around you? Take a long, hard look at it, and see if it is still serving you now.

You and you alone are keeper of the keys to your emotional closet. Isn’t it taking a lot of your energy and emotional space to keep these things tucked away? How much more could you be doing if you were free and clear of all these fragments that lie scattered about?

It’s time for a little bit of Spring cleaning.

Yes, we’ve “bought and owned” these things throughout our lives for various amounts of times, and for various reasons – just like all of the stuff in our closets, basements, garages, and attics. It all served a purpose at one time or another, be it to help us, or to teach us something intended to help us learn.

How do we let go of these fragments of ourselves that have been confining us and defining us? By realizing that they happened for a reason, and whatever that reason was, it is now passed, and we no longer need to keep these fragments. So pick that fragment up, place it over your heart, and see it being lovingly absorbed into who you are, healing you, making you stronger, more loving and accepting of yourself, and becoming more whole.

It will take some work, but you can get there. Be kind to you. Take care of you. You are so loved by those who know you. Isn’t it time to be one of those people, and love yourself?
