Sleepless in Stevens Point

Oh my stars and circadian rhythms! I have no idea why but I didn't sleep a single wink last night. This is so outside of my character. Normally I go to bed at 9:30 and get up without an alarm at 5:30. I am so much more a morning person. Normally I fall asleep as my head hits the pillow. But last night, I tell ya, I wasn't even drowsy all night long.

I pretty much never watch tv except for Packer games. Yesterday the game was in the evening and only available on NBC. I live in a neck of the woods where NBC doesn't come free out of the air like PBS and the other big "for free" networks. So last night at 7:30 I started listening to the game on the radio like I always do when I can't watch it. While I was "watching" the game in my Lambeau of the mind, I did day #1 of the "Skinny Jeans 30 day Challenge" and didn't eat or drink anything. It was an amazing game and the Packers won! Whoo Hoo! But probably because it was such a great game I looked up and it was midnight and I wasn't tired at all. Huh. So I sat and knitted a while with some soothing music playing. Then it was 2am and I still didn't feel sleepy. But I decided I just had to go to bed. That and my cat was just staring at me with a confused kitty look on her face.

Nothing doing. I wasn't upset at all (luckily I don't work on Mondays) so I didn't toss and turn but I tried to relax my body as much as possible and not worry about this anomaly. Finally at 5:30 in the morning I just couldn't pretend any more, got up, fed the confused kitty, made a small pot of coffee (I only drink caffeine in the early morning so that wasn't it) and started hanging out on Sparkpeople reading articles and blogs and leaving comments all over.

So now I am awake. I'm not wide awake but awake. I have no idea what today is going to look like. I am not a napper but I am hoping my body will want to take one this afternoon I do know that today is my long run day and I was going to go out and run 50 minutes. I am not sure if I am going to do that today. I run in the woods and drive to the trail head. I'm afraid if I were to drive and run almost an hour I'd be too tired to drive safely. I have already gave myself permission to put off my long run until tomorrow.

Two things I've learned so far today...
1. Not sleeping messes with the scale. I ate about 1300 calories yesterday and put in a nice 30 minute walk. But "somehow" I gained a little over 3 pounds since 24 hours ago. Honestly not worried about this one.
2. Sleep deprivation is kind of trippy. The whole world has little sparkly halos and I feel a little drunk.

Okay after writing #2 I guess there are three things I've learned from being awake for over 24 hours...
3. I really shouldn't be driving today if I am seeing halos and feeling drunk.

    I don't like taking naps in the daytime, but occasionally I have to. Since you're seeing little sparkly halos and feel a little drunk, you may want to go ahead and try napping. It helps me to read a few pages of a favorite book before nodding off.

    I’ve had nights like that! In fact I was awake at 2 a.m. and succumbed to a sleeping pill 💊😱 But I did sleep for 6 hours which is fine for me. Like you, with no sleep I see halos and feel woozy. This is a good rest day and nap day for you. ❤️

    You may not be a napper, but I think today will be an exception. At least, I hope so. I hope you get some rest because it’s so important. ZzzZzz.
