Where Does Disappointment Come From?
Tuesday, October 15, 2019
Undoubtedly, we have all felt a sense of disappointment at some time, specifically things pertaining to health and fitness.
But what was the reason? Was it a failed expectation-in which we disappointed another or was it ourselves?
What standard are we striving to live up to? Did we or someone raise the bar so high that no matter how hard we try, we can't measure up? And if we compare to someone who seems to always excel, do we subtly tell ourselves, 'we are not that good, or worse, not good enough?
Comparing ourselves is a sure path to disappointment. The reality is, there will always be someone who seems to be ahead of us and those who are trailing behind.
In my earlier years I was ferocious with my fitness in addition to a physically active work day. I worked out hard for say sixty minutes, doing things like Tae Bo and finishing off with an outdoor jog. Into the next chapter of life, I am still consistent and exercise is as important as it was decades ago but it is a fact, that with age, our bodies slow down. They are supposed to. I do not compete with my younger self.
At first this came as a disappointment, as I was used to going-non-stop. When I finally came to a place of acceptance, the disappointment ceased! I have made peace with my mature self.
Shouldn't giving our best be 'good enough' and yes-acceptable?
I know it makes for peace!
Thanks for stopping by today and have a wonderful day!
