GLAMORIZING AN UNHEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Friday, March 04, 2016

CHERYL TIEGS UPSET SOME PEOPLE THE OTHER DAY BY SAYING THAT THE REGAL SIZED MODEL ON THE COVER OF SPORTS ILLUSTRATED GLAMORIZED AN UNHEALTHY LIFESTYLE. SHE ALSO FOLLOWED UP SAYING THAT ANOREXIA AND BULIMIA WERE NOT HEALTHY EITHER. I TEND TO AGREE WITH BOTH STATEMENTS.

MOST OF MY ENTIRE LIFE I HAVE BATTLED WEIGHT. I LIVED IN A CULTURE WHERE LOVE AND FOOD WERE EQUATED AS NECESSARY. I MODELED EATING HABITS AFTER MY PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS. FOODS HIGH IN FAT, SALT, FRIED, AND COATED WITH STARCHES. TO NOT TO EAT, WAS EQUIVOCATED WITH AN INSULT TO THE PERSON COOKING. I LEARNED BY OBSERVATION TO MAKE UNHEALTHY FOOD CHOICES.

EXERCISE WAS NOT A MODELED ITEM. I MODELED PARENTS IN READING AND WATCHING TV. MY MOM I FOUND LATER EXERCISED IN BATHROOM AND IN THE TUB. I HAVE CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT WE ARE NOT ONLY WHAT WE EAT, BUT ALL OF WHAT WE LEARN OR LET OURSELVES LEARN ABOUT EATING.

I LOOKED AT THE PICTURE OF THE FULL SIZED MODEL, ASHLEY GRAHAM, WHO IS A BEAUTY AND BY DEFINITION OF BMI PROBABLY OBESE. HOWEVER WHAT I SAW, WAS A WOMAN WHO IS WELL TONED, WITH GLOWING SKIN. I SAW NO ROLLS OF FAT OVER THE WAISTLINE AND A SHAPELY TORSO. SHE IS A BEAUTY. SHE IS NO MORE A BEAUTY THAT CHERYL WAS.

I UNDERSTAND MS. TIEG'S STATEMENT. AS A CULTURE, WE SHOULD NOT MAKE GLUTTONY OKAY, BUT WE SHOULD BE SUPPORTIVE TO THOSE WITH WEIGHT ISSUES. MOST OF US WHO ARE OVERWEIGHT KNOW THAT WE DO NOT DO FOR OUR BODY AND HEALTH WHAT IT NEEDS.

WE SHOULD NOT SIT IDLY FOR HOURS ON END AND SNACK. LIFE SHOULD NOT BE ONE CONTINUOUS MEAL. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT MOST OF MY LIFE IT WAS EASIER TO COMFORT MY HURTS WITH FOOD THAN TO WORK TO FACE THE ISSUES OF STRESS, DEPRESSION, ABUSE. FOOD IS THERE WITH NO QUESTIONS. AS HUMANS WE SEEM TO TRY TO TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT. WE LOOK FOR OTHERS TO BLAME FOR OUR POOR DECISIONS.

I LAYED IN A HOSPITAL BED FOR 3 MONTHS AND DECIDED THAT NO ONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ME BUT ME. I AM AN ADULT. I NEED TO FOCUS ON WHAT I NEED TO DO TO BE HEALTHY.

AS FAR AS PUBLIC CRITICISM OF OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE, IT IS STILL ONLY UNDER OUR CONTROL. iT IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO EAT. MY RESPONSE TO MS. TIEG IS YOU ARE NOT TOTALLY RIGHT NOR IS MS. GRAHAM. MS. GRAHAM APPEARS TO BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE AND WELL TONED WITHOUT ROLLS OF FAT. SHE SHOULD BE AN EXAMPLE TO OVERWEIGHT WOMEN OF A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE WITH EXERCISE AND WITH TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF. MS. TIEG MAY HAVE BEEN MAKING AN ATTEMPT TO SAY THIS, BUT WITH HER EXEMPLIFICATION OF THIN, HER STATEMENTS WERE TAKEN WITH DERISION BY THOSE WHO HAVE BATTLED WEIGHT ISSUES.

READ ALL YOU CAN ABOUT DIET AND EXERCISE AND DO WHAT BEST SUITS YOUR LIFESTYLE. MAKE A PLAN AND WORK THE PLAN.

Some of us are not healthy at 15 pounds just ask my physicians. I eat healthy and exercise to stay within range but not lowest range. Comfort range.
