One pump of lotion...

We've probably all seen the article or read the email, measuring success without the scale. And that success is usually that it took less food to fill us up, we needed a belt or to tighten it, a whole new wardrobe all together because our clothes are getting so loose. But last night, I did something that I do once in a while to take care of myself and immediately thought about Sparkpeople, my journey, and most of all, my success so far.
I am sick, so I sort of lounged around doing random things when I felt up to it yesterday. Last night I decided to finally shower for the day, knowing it would help open up some of the congestion I have. For some reason, my skin felt pretty dry and tight so I decided I would go ahead with the lotion head to toe thing I do once or twice a week. Gotta keep that skin hydrated too! So I started with my face and worked my way down, put one full pump in my hand and started on a thigh, worked down to my knee, and before I knew it was I to my ankle and didn't need more lotion to finish. Could it really be? Any time my skin feels that tight and dry it soaks up lotion like a sponge. And usually one pump gets me from the top of my thigh to my knee and I need just under one full one for knee down. Now I have been battling loose pants around my waist, and not to brag (okay, totally bragging) but that's what losing 36 pounds can do for you, but my legs haven't looked like they've changed. They still have that wiggle, that waving jiggle, we all wait patiently to get rid of. But, I guess they are smaller, and I now have less surface area to cover with lotion! The money I'll save in moisturizers will be great, not enough to buy a bunch of new pants but I'm not complaining about that haha!!
That whole article about measuring success without the scale never really spoke to me until last night. So I encourage everyone to notice those small things you haven't before...are your clothes getting loose in more than just your waist? Did it take a little less shave gel, body wash, or even lotion? It's amazing how many things are overlooked that are trying to scream "look at what you've accomplished!"
