My name is Kat and I am here to release my excess weight for good. I haven't always been a "big girl" but it has been a long time since I have been "normal".

I think that the moment it REALLY hit me to make changes was when my son had a regression at the age of 18 months. I went through so many emotions but the major emotion was guilt. Guilt that I could have done something to cause it. Was it the vaccination shot he had a week or so before? Was it the foods he was eating? Was it my breastmilk? Was it because I was so big when I was pregnant with him? Was it something I did that caused the regression? I could go on and on with the questions I posed myself? We were destoyed. We went from a child calling us Momma and Daddy and talking in sentences to a child that wouldn't even look at us in the eye or even respond to his own name. A child that had night terrors and wouldn't sleep through the night. A child that had absence seizures and who didn't find much joy in anything.

Then, as he was slowly coming back to us through therapy and lots and lots of work from Mom and Dad he woke up with a horrible rash and was rushed to the ER when it became obvious that it was getting worse.

That is when we became aware of food intolerances and food allergies. I learned everything I could about natural remedies (homeopathy) and food alternatives to the dairy and wheat and other foods that are known to be a problem for children with autism.

Even though he was never diagnosed with Autism (we wanted to try everything we could to not get that label attached to him) he displayed a lot of the symtpoms at first. After that trip to the ER I was convinced that food was the key to health and wellbeing and that I needed to make some drastic changes to the way I was feeding my family.

But, at the time, I was so devastated that my child couldn't be a "normal" child that I went overboard and made my son afraid to eat the foods he was allowed. I was so anxious that the foods he was eating would cause another reaction that I didn't realize I was causing my son to fear food in general. It was when he parroted back to me one day "I can't have that Mommy, it will make me sick!" that I then learned the biggest lesson to date.

I NEED TO LET GO OF MY FEAR!!

I then let go and allowed him certain foods he wasn't "allowed" before and surprise...nothing bad happened.
Through all of the trials and experiences (both good and bad) I have slowly and gradually come to the conclusion that a vegan lifestyle is the right one for me and possible my family (my son still eats a mostly vegetarian diet with some meat occasionally but not red meat).

So now I am making these changes and becoming Vegan for my son, my husband and especially for myself. I want to be around a long time. After everything we have been through I now know that I deserve to be happy and I AM worth the trouble to be happy.

I have also learned that to let go of the fear is to release the old thoughts and patterns that have kept me from truly being content with my life. So....Here's to being truly happy and content with my life and most importantly....Myself.

I read your post in the discussion on McDougall's team. I feel your pain. I just wanted to tell you to not be so hard on yourself. It will happen. Just make sure that you make a little progress every day. Not perfection....progress. In time, the rest will happen. Also, if you eliminate the junk from your diet, you won't crave it any longer and you will be more apt to stay on the right track. The minute you slip, the cravings come back. These are the food addictions. I have the exact same problem as you so I really related to your post. Try to keep your chin up and just put one foot in front of the other. Literally....go for a walk. It will help too! Hugs!

Thanks for the award, Kat. I see we both like the quote "one day at a time." Hope to get more active here at Spark once again. Life seems to get in the way with time taken up with too many activities and commitments. Right now that is baby sitting for grandkids. Thanks again, emoticon

"Beautiful Woman Award! Once you've been given this award, you have to paste it on the wall of 8 women who deserve it. If you receive more than 3, you know you're really beautiful! If you break the chain, nothing will happen, but it's always good to know someone thinks you're beautiful inside and out"

Inside is just as important as outside. And you are truly beautiful!
