“Whatever you are doing, keep it up!” Those were the words of my rheumatologist 20+ years ago after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called ‘ankylosing spondylitis.’ X-rays revealed my spine to be 100% fused, with pain and stiffness.

I defied the doomsday diagnoses given by an orthopedist 35 years ago, “Be prepared to be disabled and in a wheelchair by the time you are in your forties!”

To that I replied, ‘NO I won't! So, in keeping with my rheumatologist’, I did what he recommended. I stayed mobile and kept moving! I am now 74 and worked full time, in very physically demanding job—and retired in my 70th year.

The awful prophecy did not come to pass, as the Dr. Grim said. I never made plans for anything but happiness and a fulfilled life—and that is what has come to pass!

I love retirement, except I found a new career which is writing! I have added Author to my nursing career. More below.

Thanks for the birthday cake. I'll have to put it in the freezer though, because my birthday dessert was a piece of Cheesecake Factory turtle cheesecake. It took me 5 sittings just to finish it!

Isn't it wonderful to have that blessed assurance. I've been sharing Isaiah 57:1 with people who have lost a loved one. For those who are left--not so reassuring. We're not looking forward to a lot of peace in the future. Come to think of it, we don't seem to have much now. People can't even seem to agree to disagree or allow another's opinion without being violent.

Wednesday: Big news of the day is that Jas’ surgery for the thyroid has been approved. Now have to wait for the scheduler for details (the gal we spke. w/did not have the information about whether it was the alcohol ablation or the radiofrequency ablation, but it will be one of those). Assuming it will be another trip up there but relieved it won’t be an open surgery.

Cold. But sunshine. I can handle the sunshine!

    Hugs and happy Wednesday.

    Pumpkin, oh Pumpkin,
    Your candle light's bright.
    Pumpkin, oh Pumpkin,
You shine bright through the night.

    Pumpkin, oh Pumpkin,
    You sit on the porch.
    Pumpkin, oh Pumpkin,
    You're a decorative torch.

    Pumpkin, oh Pumpkin,
    Your teeth so messed up,
As you smile at the kids,
    As cute as a buttercup.

    Pumpkin, oh Pumpkin,
    You bring me much joy.
    Pumpkin, oh Pumpkin,
    You make the children overjoyed.

    Pumpkin, oh Pumpkin,
    You're really a Jack-O'-Lantern.

Glad you had sun. We did too, even though it was cold, Uh oh on the ice!

We leave for Jas’ surgery on Sunday, 01 November. He has testing and then surgery on 04 November. HOPEFULLY we will be home on the 6th or 7th. Depends on how he feels. Looks like the weather will be good. That’s a blessing.
